A coroner's inquest continues in Midland.
The jury is looking into the death of a man shot by town police in 2009. They've heard that Douglas Heagle was brandishing two knives and was shot after he refused to drop them. Officers had been called by Heagle's mother because the 38 year old, who suffered from a mental illness, was smashing things inside their Scott Street house.







hate crime

Police have charged a 63 year old Bradford man -- with painting racist words and symbols on the house and vehicles of a mixed race couple in New Market. The incidents began in September. Police say the suspect had been involved in an earlier relationship with the female victim.



lock down

Barrie police locked down a couple of south end schools over the lunch hour Tuesday, after reports a young person was seen with a weapon. Police did speak with a teenager in the area --and determined there was no weapon and no safety risk. The lock-downs were lifted after about 40 minutes.


jobsite accident

A man was hurt in a jobsite accident in Orillia this afternoon. He fell off a ladder while working on the roof of a building on Progress Drive, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
